A 14-year-old girl has reportedly been gang-raped and severely beaten in Neyatomo village in Lakshmipur's Ramgati upazila in the early hours of Monday.
Locals admitted the rape survivor, who is married, to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex after the incident and the girl was later shifted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital when her condition deteriorated.
Confirming the matter, Ramgati police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Solaiman said police have arrested one, Miraj, out of suspicion that he is involved in the rape.
"Filing of a case by the victim's family is under process. Culprits would be brought to book after an investigation into the matter," OC Md Solaiman said.
According to police and locals, the teenager had been staying at her parents home and all of them fell asleep after dinner on Sunday night.
In the early hours of Monday, assailants broke open their door and at first bound the hands and feet of the residents of the house.
They gang-raped the teenager in turns at the scene while her parents watched and severely assaulted her after the incident. The attackers fled the spot shortly after plundering the house.
