Home minister holds meeting with Islamic scholars

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan held a meeting with top Islamic scholars of the country at his Dhanmondi residence in the capital Monday night.

The minister held the meeting in the backdrop of a section of Islamic leaders’ oppose of installing the sculpture of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman since mid-November, vandalizing of one of his sculptures in Kushtia on December 5.

Different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations also held a countrywide protest against the anti-sculpture moves in the past few days.

‘The meeting began at the minister’s Dhanmondi residence at 9:20 pm and ended at 10:55 pm. Besides representatives from Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh, top Islamic scholars of the country joined the meeting,’ home ministry’s information and public relations officer Sharif Mahmood Apu told New Age after the meeting.

Without mentioning the topic of the meeting, he said that the minister would brief media at his secretariat office on Tuesday.
