At least 10 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal were injured as Awami League’s student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League allegedly attacked them in Feni on Wednesday morning.

The attack took place over placing wreaths at the monument, in memory of the Liberation War martyrs, in front of Phulgazi Upazila Complex marking the 50th Victory Day.

Some of the injured were upazila JCD convener Mohammad Yusuf, member secretary Abdul Almim Babu, activists Jahirul Islam, Saikat and Raju, Juba Dal leader and former UP chairman Md Halim, Md Faruque, Parashuram upazila Sramik Dal general secretary Md Alamgir Hossain.

They were given treatment at different local clinics.

Injured Yusuf alleged that the upazila unit BCL leaders and activists, armed with sticks, swooped on them suddenly in presence of the police at the altar of the monument when they went there to place wreaths to mark Victory Day.

He said that at least 10 of them were injured in the incident.

Phulgazi upazila BCL president Shamsul Huq Bhuiyan Rashed, however, denied the allegation and alleged that the incident was nothing but a JCD factional clash.

Phulgazi police station officer-in-charge Kutub Uddin said that they intervened the chasing and counter chasing between the front organisations of Awami League and BNP and calmed the situation.

‘None was injured in the incident and none was arrested,’ he said.
