Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF along Patgram border

The Indian Border Security Force shot a Bangladeshi youth to death at Patgram border in Lalmonirhat early Wednesday.

The victim, Zahidul Islam, 23, of Islampur village under Patgram upazila was a cattle trader.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh officials, a group of six to seven Bangladeshi cattle traders, with the help of Indian cattle traders, went inside Indian territory through the border at Srirampur of Patgram Upazila.

They said that Zahidul died on the spot as the BSF members of Ramoniganj 140 BSF Battalion patrol team opened fire on the group.

The body of Zahidul lied on the spot until Indian police took the body for autopsy at about 2:30pm, they said.

BGB Rangpur 71 Battalion’s Shamsernagar company commander Subedar Azharul Islam confirmed the incident and said that they sent a protest letter to the BSF and asked to find out the cause of the murder and return the body.

He said that they also called their Indian counterpart to hold a flag meeting between company commanders.
