DMP bans DJ party on 31st night

Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Shafiqul Islam said on Monday no DJ party would be allowed on 31st night on the eve of New Year 2021 and all drink bars in the capital must close their doors before the evening on the day.

The DMP chief disclosed the restrictions while addressing a meeting on security and traffic management on Christmas Day and 31st night.

He said that they have taken proper security measures ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The DMP chief said that none would be allowed for party or gathering on open spaces on 31st night.

Hotel authorities were asked not to rent their spaces for DJ parties on the night, said the DMP chief.

They, however, can arrange programmes on their own management at hotel maintaining health directives and social distancing, he said.

The sale of all kinds of liquor, including beer and wine, would remain prohibited in all bars and hotels, except those of international standards, from 31 December afternoon to January 1 afternoon, he said.

The police authorities also instructed not to arrange any party on Dhaka University campus or in any other educational institution.

About Christmas security on December 25, the biggest religious festival of the Christian community, Shafiqul said that tight security measures have been taken for peaceful celebrations of the day.

He recommended more than one prayers at churches following COVID-19 health directives.
