Road communications between Rangamati’s Langadu upazila and Merung of Khagrachhari’s Dighinala upazila and the rest of the country snapped Saturday morning as a bailey bridge collapsed on the Dighinala-Merung road in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari district.
Shakil Md Foysal, executive engineer of Khagrachhari Roads and Highways Department, said the bailey bridge collapsed around 9:30am when two wood-laden trucks attempted to cross it at the same time.
A human hauler, which was behind a truck, also fell in the ditch, leaving its three passengers injured.
A team from Khagrachhari Roads and Highways Department visited the spot following the accident.
“It may take some days to resume communication,” said Foysal.
However, no one was arrested as the drivers of the two trucks fled the scene soon after the incident.
