DMP bans 31st night programmes on open spaces

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has imposed restrictions on open space programmes, fireworks and entry at specific areas on 31st night on the eve of New Year 2021.

DMP commissioner Shafiqul Islam imposed the restrictions through a notice on Tuesday to avoid any untoward incident that could aggravate COVID-19 situation.

Earlier on December 21, DMP said it would not allow any DJ party on the 31st night and asked all drink bars in the capital to close their doors before the evening on the day.

In its latest instruction, DMP said that no meeting, gathering or celebration on rooftops, roads, flyovers or public places would be allowed on the 31st night.

No fireworks and cultural programme or function would be allowed on open spaces, said the DMP.

Dhaka University campus would remain off-limits to the outsiders after 6:00 pm on December 31, the DMP notice said, adding that no outsider would be allowed to enter Gulshan and Banani area after 8:00 pm on that night.

Residents of Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas were requested to return home before 8:00 pm and none would be allowed to stay in Hatirjheel area by that time.

The capital residents are asked not to carry any licensed arms in public places from 6:00 pm on December 31 to 6:00 am on January 1.
