A mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was vandalised at Pirganj Purba intersection under Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon on Friday afternoon.
Pirganj police station inspector (investigation) Khairul Anam said that they, after hearing the information, rushed to the spot and arrested Nur Alam, 43, of Raghunathpur under the upazila while he had been vandalising the mural by hitting it with bricks at about 4:00pm.
The inspector said that a case lodged with the police station against Nur Alam under Special Powers Act 1974 for vandalizing the mural.
Earlier on December 5, 2020, a sculpture of Mujib was vandalised in Kushtia town and an sculpture of anti-British legendary leader Bagha Jatin was damaged at Kumarkhali in Kushtia on December 18, 2020.
