Ahmed Kabir, a retired Professor of Bangla department of Dhaka University, died of cancer at a Dhaka hospital on Sunday evening. He was 76.
He breathed his last around 6:50pm at capital’s Labaid Hospital, chairman of Bangla department Syed Azizul Haque told the news agency.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held in the university’s Fuller Road area around 11:30pm.
The professor was taken to the university’s Aparajaeo Bangla premises on Monday morning to let his well-wishers pay the last tribute to him, said Azizul.
Later, he was taken to his hometown Chattogram where he was laid to rest after his second namaz-e-janaza.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
All of his three daughters are teachers of different departments of Dhaka University.
Dhaka University vice chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman, in a condolence message, expressed deep shock at the death of Kabir.
