Globe Biotech gets DGDA nod for producing COVID-19 vaccine

Bangladeshi drug firm Globe Biotech got Directorate General of Drug Administration approval for producing COVID-19 vaccine for human trials.

The firm’s head of research and development Asif Mahmud confirmed the matter.

‘We’re getting prepared for human trials this month,’ he said

They, however, would also need approval from Bangladesh Medical Research Council.

Globe Biotech was the first ever Bangladeshi drug manufacturer to join the race for developing a COVID-19 vaccine.

On July 2, 2020, Globe Biotech announced that it was developing a COVID-19 vaccine after successfully completing preliminary animal trials.

On October 5, 2020, the company said that it had received ‘very promising’ results from the pre-clinical trials of the vaccine on rabbits and mice.
