Missing teen's body found in septic tank of boyfriend's house after 11 months

The body of a teenaged girl, who went missing 11 months ago, has been found in the septic tank of her boyfriend’s house in Purbo Botla village under Dasar police station in Madaripur’s Kalkini upazila.

The district Detective Branch (DB) of police recovered the body on Saturday around 8pm.

According to multiple sources, Shahabuddin Akon, 25, and Murshida Akter, 16, were involved in a romantic relationship.

On February 18, 2020, Shahabuddin took Murshida to his house; she had been missing since then.

Being unable to find her anywhere, Murshida’s family filed a general diary with Dasar police station that night. As there was no remedy, Murshida's mother filed a case against five people including Shahabuddin on March 4 with the same police station.

Madaripur DB police took charge of the investigation on December 18 as there was no progress in the case for a long time.

On December 31, Shahabuddin Akon, the main accused, voluntarily surrendered to the court.

In police custody, Shahabuddin on Saturday afternoon confessed to his involvement in the murder and also admitted to hiding the body.

Based on the information given by him, DB police recovered Murshida’s body from the septic tank of his house later that night.

The body of the deceased was sent to Madaripur District Hospital for autopsy, said Madaripur DB police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rezaul Karim.

Murshida’s mother Mahinur Begum said: “My daughter was killed by Shahabuddin and his men. I want them hanged.”

Miraj Talukder, maternal uncle of the deceased, also demanded capital punishment for everyone involved in the incident.
