Job-seeking BCL members lock RU main gate

A group of job seekers, mostly current and former members of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of ruling Awami League, on Tuesday blocked the entrance of the Rajshahi University administrative building demanding job at the university.

About 100 of them locked the entry gate and took a position at around 9:00 am witnesses said.

The job seekers said that RU vice-chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan had long been assuring them of giving job at the university.

However, the vice-chancellor did not keep his promise and instead gave job only to his daughter, son-in-law and other relatives.

Earlier, RU unit BCL leader and activists locked the entry gate of the vice-chancellor’s residence at about 9.00 pm on Monday.

They kept the gate under lock and key after a meeting with the university vice-chancellor.

According to a job seeker, the VC told them that he could not appoint anyone as the education ministry had asked the university authorities to suspend all kinds of recruitment activities.
