Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday told the parliament that there were 4.81 lakh vehicles without fitness running in the country.
Replying to a question of treasury bench lawmaker M Latifur Rahman, Quader, also ruling Awami League general secretary, said that the authorities concerned have taken different measures to prevent it.
Authorities were sending SMS to owners to renew the fitness certificates while Bangladesh Road Transport Authority circle offices were asked to take steps, he said.
The minister added that fine and dumping of vehicles without fitness have also continued.
Quader mentioned that the list of fitness-less vehicles was updated lastly in December 2020.
