Jewellery shop robbed in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area

Robbers took away gold ornaments and cash from a jewellery shop at Rapa Plaza in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area last night.

The owner primarily estimated that 500 tola of gold ornaments were looted, breaking open Rajlaxmi Jewellers on the ground floor of the building.

Amit Saha, brother of the owner, said the employees locked the shop around 8:30pm last night before going home.

"Around 9:00am today, security guards told us that the shop was looted. We rushed there and saw the locks were broken and shutters of the shop are open," Amit told The.

CCTV footage shows that two-three persons, covering their faces, entered the shop and ransacked everything, he said.

"We suspect 500 tola of gold ornaments were looted. We need time to assess the actual amount," he said.

On information, a team of police was sent to the spot, said Assistant Sub-inspector Jahangir Alam, duty officer of Dhanmondi Police Station.

Police are collecting CCTV footage and interrogating security guards.
