Journalist Shaheen Reza Nur passes away

Shaheen Reza Nur, former executive editor of the daily Ittefaq and elder son of Shaheed journalist Sirajuddin Hossain, died of cancer at the age of 67.

He breathed his last at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada at 10:40am (Bangladesh time), his brother Touhid Reza Nur confirmed.

He said Shaheen's condition started to worsen 10 days back and he was admitted at Vancouver General Hospital four days ago.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina phoned to express her condolence. She reminisced on Shaheen bhai and baba. She has been informed about his last wish. She listened to our expectations. We hope, Shaheen bhai's body will be brought back to Bangladesh through the state," he said .

Shaheen, founder of Projonmo Ekattor, had testified against Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid in a case filed for his involvement in crimes committed against humanity during the Liberation War.

Shaheen Reza was born in Shalikha upazila of Magura in 1954.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader also expressed shock over the death of the journalist.
