DU finalizes admission dates, application starts March 8

The General Admission Committee of Dhaka University has finalized the dates for undergraduate admission tests for 2020-21 academic session, following recommendations from the deans’ committee.

The move came following a meeting of the General Admission Committee on Thursday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury senate building with Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, said a DU press release.

Candidates who passed their HSC can apply through the admission website -- admission.eis.du.ac.bd -- after 4pm of March 8 and before 11.59pm of March 31, said a DU press release.

The exams will be held in eight divisional cities, Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions, for the first time considering current pandemic situation.

The entrance test will begin on May 21 with the admission test for “Ka” (A) unit under the science faculty.

The Kha (B) unit test under the arts faculty will be held on May 22, followed by the Ga (C) unit test under business faculty on May 27 and the Gha (D) unit test under the social sciences faculty on May 28.

The preliminary test for the Cha (E) unit under the fine arts faculty will be held on June 5.

All the tests will be held between 11am and 12:30pm, the hand-out also added.

Question will be set 60 marks on Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) and 40 marks against written test for Ka, Kha, Ga and Gha units. Aspirants will be given 45 minutes for each portion.

However, Cha unit aspirants will get 30 minutes against the MCQ of 40 marks and 45 minutes against 60 marks written, the press release stated.

Moreover, aspirants’ Grade Point Average (GPA) of SSC and HSC will be evaluated under the scale of 20 marks (10+10) other than the academic test marks (100), multiple Deans of the university confirmed, but was not mentioned in the press release.

Students applying from the science group are required to have a minimum SSC and HSC combined GPA of 8.5.

Applicants from the arts and business studies groups require a combined GPA of 8, while those applying for fine arts will need 7.

In the 2019-20 academic session, there were 7,118 honours seats against 276,392 applicants. Applicants have to pay a fee of Tk450 for each unit they intend to take the exam for.
