Covid-19 vaccine: 20 lakh doses arrive at Dhaka airport in 2nd consignment

The second consignment of Covid-19 vaccine from India – 20 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine – reached Dhaka in the early hours today.

A special flight of Spice Jet carrying the vaccine doses landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 12:23am, an official of Aviation Security at the HSIA told The Daily Star.

This consignment is less than half of the monthly supply instalment as per a contract.

The government purchased three crore shots of the vaccine called Covishield from Serum Institute of India through its local agent Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

According to the tripartite deal, Bangladesh is supposed to get 50 lakh doses a month for six months.

The country received the first instalment of 50 lakh doses on January 25.
