A Union Parishad member was gunned down by unknown assailants in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati today.
The deceased -- Samar Bikash Chakma (38) -- was a member of Rupkari Union Parishad in Ward-1 of the upazila, reports our Rangamati correspondent quoting Md Anwar Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station.
Quoting witnesses, OC Anwar said Samar was seen at the office of the upazila's Project Implementation Officer at 1am.
A miscreant shot him there, leaving him dead on the spot and fled the scene, said the OC.
On information, police recovered the body, the OC said, adding that the reason behind this murder could not be known immediately.
