Court confiscates Faridpur AL brothers’ properties

A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered to seize 706 bighas of property in 487 schedules of suspended Faridpur city Awami League general secretary Sajjad Hossain Barkat and his brother Imtiaz Hasan Rubel accused of embezzling Tk 2,000 crore.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order based on a petition filed by Criminal Investigation Department officials.

The court also ordered to seize Tk 10 crore from their 16 bank accounts and 55 vehicles including buses, trucks, microbuses, and cars.

The CID had applied to the court for the confiscation of their scheduled assets, bank accounts, and vehicles in the interest of investigating the case.

The CID on June 26 lodged the case with Kafrul police station against Barkat and Rubel, accusing them of laundering the money.

The siblings were later arrested and they reportedly made confessions on July 24 following interrogation in police custody for three days.
