'Missing' prisoner Farhad arrested from Narsingdi

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police on Tuesday arrested 'missing' prisoner Md Farhad Hossain alias Rubel from the Raipura area of Narsingdi district.

Farhad was arrested by a team of Kotwali police from the Raipura area at about 6:00 am, SM Mehedi Hasan, deputy commissioner (south) of CMP, told New Age.

Farhad is being brought to Chattogram from Narsingdi, the police officer said.

The jail authorities on Saturday came to know that prisoner Farhad went missing from Karnaphuli Building's Ward No.15 inside the jail.

The jail authorities in the same afternoon lodged a general diary with Kotwali police station being failed to trace the prisoner.

According to the GD, the prisoner is from the Raipura area of Narsingdi.

Farhad was in Chattogram Central Jail from February 9 in connection with a murder case filed with Sadarghat police station, said Md Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.

Jailer Rafiqul Islam and deputy jailer Md Abu Saddat were withdrawn and prison guard Nazim Uddin and assistant prison guard Yunus Mia were suspended and a departmental case was filed against assistant chief prison guard Kamal Haider on Sunday on charge of negligence in duty.

The prison authorities also formed a committee headed by Khulna Division DIG prisons Sagir Mia to investigate the incident.
