Supreme Court Bar Association election begins

Voting in the two-day annual election to the 14-member executive committee, including president and secretary, of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) began this morning.

The voting started at 10:00am at SCBA building, which will continue till 5:00pm with a one-hour lunch and prayer break.

A total of 7,719 lawyers have registered as voters for the country's prime bar association election.

SCBA sources said the main contest would take place between panels of ruling Awami League-backed Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and pro-BNP Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel.

Former law minister and Awami League MP Abdul Matin Khasru, and former BNP lawmaker Md Fazlur Rahman have been nominated for the post of president from Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel respectively.
