COVID-19 claims 12, infects 1,014 more in Bangladesh

Bangladesh recorded an addition 12 COVID-19 deaths and 1,014 fresh cases in the past 24 hours on Saturday.

The death toll hits 8,527 while the tally of infections has surged to 5,56,236, said a Directorate General of Health Services release.

The recovery count rose to 5,10,310 after another 1,138 patients were discharged from hospitals during the period.

A total of 16,206 samples were tested at 219 authorised laboratories across the country during the time.

Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 6.26 per cent tested positive, while 13.09 per cent cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, the release added.

Among the total infections, 91.74 per cent patients have recovered, while 1.53 per cent died so far since the first COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8, 2020.
