Nine RMG workers injured in police firing

At least nine RMG workers sustained gunshot wounds as police opened fire at a gathering of ready-made garment workers in Tejgaon Industrial Area in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

The injured are Amina, 27, Nahida, 22, Anwara, 25, Anjila, 26, Hosne Ara, 27, Paevin Akhter, 28, Hasina Begum, 40, and Anjana Akhter, 30. Amina told reporters that they all used to work at Apparel Stitch Limited in Tibet area of Tejgaon Industrial Area and they were staging a demonstration to press home their different demands.

On Tuesday morning they went to their workplace to talk to the authorities concerned about their demand and while they were talking to the company authorities, police opened fire on them without any provocation, Amina said.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost in-charge Bachchu Miah said that all the injured were undergoing treatment at the emergency unit of the hospital.
