4 BNP leaders sued for sedition

A sedition case has been filed against four opposition party leaders, including BNP chairperson's adviser and former Rajshahi mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu and the party's Organizing Secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu.

Mosabbirul Islam, law affairs secretary of the Awami League’s Rajshahi Metropolitan unit, filed the case at Rajshahi Metropolitan Chief Magistrate's Court 2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Judge Saiful Islam took cognizance of the case, said the plaintiff's lawyer Adv Aslam Sarkar.

According to the case statement, BNP leader Minu publicly threatened Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in his speech during a rally in Rajshahi on March 2.

The other accused in the case are Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP President Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul and General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Milon.

Rajshahi City Awami League President and Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said an application was filed with the Home Ministry on March 9 through the Rajshahi deputy commissioner seeking permission to lodge a sedition case against four BNP leaders. The Home Ministry approved the application on Monday. With the approval of the Home Ministry, the court took cognizance of the case directly.
