Govt warns of stern action if anyone spreads fake news on lockdown

The government today warned of stern action if anyone spreads misleading or fake news on general holiday or lockdown in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.

The warning was issued following rumours after an old video circulated on social media.

"An old video of last year's official announcement on March 23, 2020 has gone viral. The government will take strict action against those involved in such false and misleading information campaign," said a statement of Press Information Department (PID).

The government has made it clear that it has not taken any decision on lockdown or general holiday due to the outbreak of coronavirus, it said.
