Highest daily count 3,554 COVID-19 infections in nine months recorded

COVID-19 cases and test positivity rate increased further on Tuesday.

Directorate General of Health Services reported 3,554 new cases in 24 hours ending at 8:00am Tuesday, up from 2,809 cases detected on Monday, and the highest in nearly nine months in terms of a single day detection.

The test positivity rate rose to 13.69 per cent on Tuesday, up from 11.19 per cent from Monday, and highest in three and half months.

In the past 24 hours, COVID-19 killed 18 more people. Monday’s death figure was 30.

With the new figures, the country so far tallied 5,77,241 cases and 8,738 deaths.

On Tuesday, 42,809 COVID-19 patients were under treatment.

Some 25,954 specimens were tested in the timeline at 219 labs across the country.

Bangladesh had tested a total of 44,60,184 specimens as of March 23.

A total of 1,835 patients were declared free from novel coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours totalling the recovery to 525,994.

Bangladesh on March 8, 2020 reported the first COVID-19 positive cases while the first death was logged ten days later on March 18, 2020.
