5 injured as Hefajat activists clash with AL, BCL men in Sylhet

Five people were injured as Hefajat-e-Islam activists clashed with local Awami League and Chhatra League men in Sylhet city this noon during the dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by Hefajat-e Islam.

The clash occurred in Bandarbazar area when Awami League, Chhatra League men brought out a procession against today's hartal and attacked some Hefajat activists from the procession, witnesses said.

Several crude bombs were exploded at that time.

Police arrested four people from the spot but this correspondent did not get any comment over the arrest.

Due to the countrywide hartal, no buses left Sylhet bus stand since this morning.

Hefajat activists are obstructing traffic at every entrance point of the city. Sharp weapons, bamboo sticks and iron rods were seen in their hands.

Hefajat-e-Islam enforced a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country today protesting Indian Prime Minister Modi's visit to Bangladesh and police action in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Brahmanbaria.
