Bangladesh reports 35 COVID-19 death in 24 hours

At least 35 more people died of COVID-19 and 3,908 others were detected with coronavirus infection across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours ending at 8:00am Sunday.

With the new figures, the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 5,95,714 and the number of deaths hit 8,904, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

A total of 22,136 samples were tested in the past 24 hours and 17.65 per cent of them tested positive for COVID-19, the DGHS said in its daily update.

Bangladesh on March 8 confirmed the first cases of COVID-19 and the first death on March 18.

The country’s case positivity rate is now 12.98 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.49 per cent.

The DGHS in its daily update said that among the 35 new deaths none died at home.

Among the new deaths, 25 died in Dhaka division, five died in Barishal division, two died each in Chattogram and Rajshahi and one died in Khulna divisions.

21 of the deceased were above the 60 years of age, five were in between 51 years and 60 years, six were in between 41 years and 50 years, and three were in between 31 and 40 years.

So far, 5,35,941 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country, including 2,019 in the past 24 hours.
