Bangladesh imposes restrictions as COVID-19 infection increases

Bangladesh on Monday imposed restrictions amid the increasing rate of COVID-19 infections across the country.

A gazette notification signed by prime minister’s principal secretary Ahmad Kaikaus gave a set of 18 directives and said that the directives would come into effect immediately.

The restrictions would remain effective for two weeks.

The directives include ban on public gathering in highly infected areas, limiting all types of political, social, religious and public gatherings and discouraging social functions.

It said that the public transports will have to ply with 50 per cent of its passenger capacity, follow health rules and limit inter-district transport movement in highly infected areas and, if needed, transport movement have to be stopped.

Appropriate health guidelines would have to be followed at all religious establishments, while gatherings would be limited at tourist spots, amusement centres, cinema and theatre halls and arranging all types of fair would be discouraged, the directions said.

The passengers coming from abroad would have to maintain a mandatory institutional quarantine for 14 days, all educational institutions and coaching centers would remain closed, legal actions would be taken for failure to wear masks or maintaining health rules, hotels and restaurants would not be allowed to accept more than 50 per cent of their capacities, according to the directives.

People were asked not to go out of home after 10:00pm without any emergency, while all government and non-government offices were directed to run with their 50 per cent manpower, ensuring quarantine for COVID-19 infected ones and people with COVID-19 symptoms.
