Long queues, public suffering as buses start operating at 50% occupancy

Commuters, especially office-goers, have been facing difficulties since this morning as public transports have started operating at 50 percent occupancy in Dhaka and adjacent areas in line with the latest government directive.

Long queues formed at bus stops, reports our photographer while visiting different parts of Dhaka including Mirpur, Topkhana Road and Savar.

Many commuters were seen walking to their destinations, as buses were saying no seats were available.

Using loudspeakers, transport workers were asking passengers to wear masks and maintain other health guidelines.

n many buses, passengers were seen sitting side by side, posing serious risk of coronavirus infection.

Some of the buses were also seen carrying more than 50 percent passengers, violating the government instruction.

The government asked the public transports to leave 50 percent seats vacant amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases.
