Daily infection hits new high in Bangladesh

Bangladesh recorded 7,087 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, a level reached for the first time since the pandemic began.

Directorate General of Health Services in a bulletin said that the new infections were confirmed after testing 30,724 samples in the 24 hours until 8:00am on Sunday.

The last record of daily cases was set on Friday with 6,830 people contracting the disease.

The health services also confirmed 53 deaths in the 24 hours with the death count reaching 9,266.

Bangladesh is experiencing the second week of pandemic that prompted the government to enforce a weeklong lockdown from Monday.

So far 637,364 people have been contracted with COVID-19 since its first outbreak in March last year.
