Woman gang-raped in Rajbari in the name of treatment

A kabiraj (quack) and his assistant have allegedly gang-raped a homemaker in Rajbari Sadar upazila in the name of providing treatment.

The incident took place at Char Bagmara village on April 13.

Police arrested the duo on Thursday after the woman filed a case the same day.

The arrested are -- Mannan Gain, 52, the quack, a resident of Raynagar village, and his accomplice Faruk Biswas, 35, of Char Bagmara, under the same upazila.

Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Swapan Kumar Majumder said the woman took some medications as she felt pain in her body on April 8.

As she did not get relief, her mother called Mannan to their house on April 12.

Mannan performed some rites in the name of treatment and said that she needed to be taken to an intersection in the locality at night for the purpose.

The next day, playing another trick, the quack and Faruk took the woman near a waterbody around 10:30pm, raped her in turn and fled the scene.

OC Swapan Kumar said the rape survivor lodged a case against the two on Thursday afternoon under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The law enforcers apprehended the duo within four hours of the case filed, he added.
