Bank officers to get Tk 50 lakh if die of Covid-19

Bangladesh Bank on Monday announced a compensation package for bankers, keeping a provision to give Tk 50 lakh as compensation if any first class officer of any bank dies of Covid-19.

The central bank issued a circular on Monday to the managing director and chief executive officers of all the scheduled banks in this regard.

First class officers, senior officers, probationary officers, management trainee officers, other officers equivalent to these positions and officers senior to these posts would be given a financial compensation of Tk 50 lakh each if they die of Covid-19.

The compensation would be given to the family members of the bankers and would not be adjustable with the officers’ other liabilities with the bank.

The compensation would be considered as an addition to other compensations, if there was any other scope of compensation, the BB circular said.

Apart from the upper slab, the central bank also incorporated two other slabs in this circular for the officials below the rank of first officer.

For the officials below the rank of first class officer and holding the position of trainee assistant officer or equivalent positions would be given Tk 37.5 lakh.

Other staff and sub-staff, appointed or assigned in any means, to the bank would be considered for Tk 25 lakh in compensation if they die of Covid-19, the BB circular said.

The instruction would be effective from March 29 and would be valid until further instruction, BB said.

The central bank’s Banking Regulations and Policy Department issued the circular as per section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991.
