Bangladesh reports 83 Covid-19 death in 24 hours

Eighty-three more people died of Covid-19 and 2,697 others were detected with coronavirus infection across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Saturday.

With the new figures, the number of Covid-19 cases rose to 7,42,400 and the number of deaths hit 10,952, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

A total of 20,571 samples were tested in the past 24 hours and 13.11 per cent of them tested positive for Covid-19, the DGHS said in its daily update.

Bangladesh on March 8 confirmed the first cases of Covid-19 and the first death on March 18.

The country’s case positivity rate is now 13.95 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.48 per cent.

The DGHS in its daily update said that among the 83 new deaths, two died at home in the past 24 hours.

Among the new deaths, 52 died in Dhaka division, 13 died in Chattogram, five died in Khulna, four died in Barishal and three died each in Rangpur, Sylhet and Rajshahi divisions.

Fifty-six of the deceased were above the 60 years of age, 17 were in between 51 years and 60 years, five were in between 41 and 50 years, and five were in between 31 and 40 years.

So far, 6,53,151 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country, including 5,477 in the past 24 hours.
