Mamunul Haque, former joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam, today said he went to Baitul Mukarram at the request of a DIG-ranked police official on March 26.
Mamunul was at a mosque in Banglabazar when the police official called him and requested him to reach Baitul Mukarram as a clash was underway between police and Hefajat activists there, the Hefajat leader told the court taking its permission.

After receiving the phone call, he went to Baitul Mukarram where he was requested to deliver a speech to pacify Hefajat men, Mamunul further said.
He addressed Hefajat supporters and pacified them, Mamunul's lawyer Zainul Abedin Mesbah quoted Mamunul as saying when he was talking to media.
"But now, I have been shown arrested in the case," Mamunul said when Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury asked him if he had anything to say.
Later, the court placed him on a 7-day remand in the case filed with Paltan Police Station on April 6 this year on charges of torching vehicles, vandalising shops and looting valuables near the Baitul Mukarram national mosque during Hefajat's demonstrations on March 26 this year.
