Bashundhara Group MD Anvir seeks anticipatory bail

Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir has sought anticipatory bail from the High Court in a case filed over the death of a college student at a flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Monday.

Anvir filed a petition through lawyers with the High Court today, seeking anticipatory bail in the case, Supreme Court lawyer Sayed Ahmed Raza said.

The lawyer, however, said he will not move the anticipatory bail petition of Anvir before the HC.

Sayed Ahmed Raza did not disclose details on this issue.

The bail petition of Anvir has been included as item No 14 in the cause list of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman for its hearing tomorrow.

Contacted, Deputy Attorney General Md Tahirul Islam told this correspondent that his office is yet to receive the copy of the bail petition as of 8:25pm.

He said the accused must appear before the HC bench for anticipatory bail in the case against him during its hearing.

Earlier on Tuesday, a Dhaka court issued a travel ban on Sayem Sobhan Anvir in connection with the case.

Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, Md Shahidul Islam, passed the order after holding hearing on a petition filed by police seeking travel ban on Sayem.

Police recovered the body of a young girl from a rented flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area on Monday night. The deceased was a college student, hailing from Cumilla.

The victim's sister filed the case with Gulshan Police Station early on Tuesday against Sayem Sobhan. In the case statement, charges of abetting suicide were brought against the businessman.
