Three Bangladeshi scientists have secured place in a list of top 100 scientists of Asia for their significant contributions.
Singapore-based journal "Asian Scientist" published the list.
The Bangladeshi scientists are - Salma Sultana, Firdausi Qadri, and Saima Subrina.
According to the Asian Scientist website, this is the sixth time this list has been made. Researchers and inventors have been selected based on their role in tackling this year's major challenges, ranging from climate change to Covid-19.
Salma Sultana is the founder of Model Livestock Advancement Foundation. She previously won the 2020 Norman E Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application by the World Food Prize Foundation for her work with small-scale farmers in Bangladesh, particularly her efforts involving veterinary outreach, treatment, and education.
International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research (icddr,b) Emeritus Scientist, Firdausi Qadri, is laureate of the 2020 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award, for her work on understanding and preventing infectious diseases affecting children in developing countries as well as her advocacy for early diagnosis and global vaccinations.
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) faculty, Samia Subrina, received the 2020 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World, for her research on the properties and uses of nanomaterials.
