Sayem Sobhan's bail hearing suspended

Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir's anticipatory bail application will not be heard on Thursday.

He had applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court on Wednesday in a case filed in connection with the recovery of the body of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia, 21, from a flat in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.

No anticipatory bail application is being heard due to the lockdown, informed a High Court bench headed by Justice Mamnoon Rahman on Thursday, reports Bangla Tribune.

The court also declared an indefinite suspension on all anticipatory bail hearing.

Justice Mamnoon Rahman said: "We will not hear any anticipatory bail during the lockdown for Covid-19. The anticipatory bail hearings put on the cause list will be deleted.”

Sayem Sobhan Anvir's anticipatory bail application was enlisted in the cause list of the virtual court at serial number 14. Senior lawyers Mansurul Haque Chowdhury and Abdul Baset Majumder were scheduled to hear the bail application.

On Monday, Munia’s body was discovered hanging at the flat she was living in, by her sister Nusrat Jahan on Monday.

According to the case over Munia’s death, filed by Nusrat with Gulshan police station, Sayem and Munia were involved in a relationship.

The case statement also mentions that Munia's life was under threat, particularly from Sayem’s family.
