BGB detains Indian citizen in Panchagarh border area

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained an Indian national from the border area in Panchagarh Sadar on charge of trespassing into Bangladesh territory yesterday.

Detainee Shambhu Bhuiyan, 40, is a resident of Gourakhpur village in Chalsa of Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal.

Company Commander of Shingroad BGB Camp Nayek Subedar Azijur Rahman filed a case against him with Panchagarh Sadar Police Station early today.

Quoting the case statement, Officer-in-charge of the police station Abu Akkas Ahmed said Shambhu entered Bangladesh through Chaklahat border in Kaharuhat village and he was moving towards Panchagarh town around 6:00pm yesterday.

BGB members intercepted him due to his suspicious attitude and later during interrogation he admitted of trespassing, the OC said.

He was handed over to the police the same night.

Procedure is on to produce Shambhu before a local court, the official added.
