Covid-19: daily number of new cases highest since May 6

Thirty-six people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours (till 8am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

With this the total number of deaths reached 12,619 and death rate stands at 1.58 percent.

At least 1,710 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 8,00,540, added the release.

This is the highest number of daily infections recorded since May 6. Number of new infections reported was 1,822 on that day.

The current positivity rate is 9.41 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 13.46 percent.

A total of 18,178 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8am today).

At least 1,567 Covid-19 patients have recovered in this period.

The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,40,372 and the recovery rate at 92.48 percent.

Among the 36 deceased, 25 were men and 11 women. Of them four were between 31-40 years old; five within 41-50; nine between 51-60 and 18 were above 60 years old, added the release.
