Three 'human traffickers' arrested from Satkhira border area; sent nearly 1,000 women to India

Police arrested three alleged human traffickers from Satkhira border area after a victim, who managed to return from India, filed a case with Dhaka's Hatirjheel Police Station yesterday.

The arrestees are: Mehedi Hasan Babu, Mohiuddin and Abdul Quader.

After the case was filed yesterday, police came to know that five out of 12 FIR-named accused are in the country and carried out drives, arresting three of them, said Md Shahidullah, deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Division Police.

During primary interrogation, Mehedi admitted that he has been involved with the human trafficking gang for nearly eight years. He told police that he trafficked more than 1,000 women to India, the DC said, adding they collected a diary and personal details of many victims and traffickers from his possession.

Law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh have started a crackdown against human traffickers after video of a 22-year-old woman, who was seen being tortured and sexually assaulted in India recently, went viral on social media.

Indian police on May 27 arrested Rifatul Islam Ridoy, also known as Ridoy Babo on TikTok, along with five other Bangladeshis from Bengaluru.

Bangladeshi law enforcement agency later identified a transnational racket, involving some Bangladeshis, which trapped victims using the social media platform TikTok.
