45 children raped in May

A total of 45 children were raped across the country last month, according to newspaper reports collected by women rights group Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.

Another 40 women were raped or gang-raped during the same time.

In a statement, the rights body said that a total of 240 women, including 104 girls, had been tortured in May, as published in 13 newspapers.

Of the child rape victims, five children were gang-raped while three were killed after rape. Two children committed suicide after being raped.

Besides, rape attempts were made on 12 people, including seven children. One woman was sexually assaulted.

According to the statement, five women and two children were sexually abused, while two other women were victims of harassment.

Moreover, one woman was burnt to death while a total of seven others were abducted.

On the other hand, at least 41 women, including 11 children, were murdered due to various reasons including family disputes in May. Besides, murder attempts were made on four women and two children.

Nine women were tortured for dowry during this period. Of them, three were killed.

In May, there were three incidents of child marriage reported in media.

Moreover, a total of 336 mysterious deaths, including nine children, were reported last month.

The statement also reads that two children and a woman became victims of cybercrime in May.
