Covid-19: 8 more die in RMCH

Eight more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), health officials said on Wednesday.

"Of the deceased, four had tested positive for Covid-19. Among them, one was from Chapainawabganj district and the other three from Rajshahi district," said RMCH Deputy Director Saiful Ferdous.

The remaining four who died at the hospital in the past 24 hours, showed symptoms of Covid-19, he said. Of them, two were from Rajshahi, and two from Chapainawabganj.

In the past 24 hours, 35 patients have been admitted to the Covid-19 unit of the hospital.

With the fresh patients, a total of 227 people are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

With the latest development, the overall death tally of Covid-19 patients at RMCH since June 1 now stands at 80.

The hospital is struggling to accommodate the rising number of Covid-19 patients, officials said.

It should be mentioned that the authorities in many districts have imposed strict restrictions – lockdowns in some of them – to contain further transmission of the Indian variant of coronavirus.
