ASI killed as drug-carrying microbus run over in Chattogram

An assistant sub-inspector was killed and another cop was injured as a suspected drug-carrying microbus ran over them while they were trying to detain the suspected drug dealers in Chattogram city’s Chandgoan area on Friday.

The deceased is ASI Kazi Md Salahuddin of Chandgoan police station, son of Kazi Nader Zaman, from South Jaipur of sadar upazila in Lakshmipur. The injured is constable Md Masum, said officials.

Police detained the microbus and seized 730 litres of distilled wine from the vehicle, said officials.

Police said that ASI Kazi Md Salahuddin along with others were on duty at Chandgoan area. On secret information, police officials signalled a microbus, which was allegedly carrying drugs, taking position on the road. But the microbus ran over the police officials and fled the scene.

Kazi Md Salahuddin and driver Md Masum were injured in the incident. Later, Kazi Md Salahuddin succumbed to his injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital at about 4:00am, according to police.

The suspected drug dealers parked the microbus on the road at Meherajkhan Ghata of Chandgoan area and fled the scene, said police.

Md Mokhlesur Rahman, deputy commissioner (north) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident to New Age.

‘A case is under processing in this connection and police are trying to identify the accused,’ he said.
