12 more die at RMCH Covid units

Twelve more people died at the Covid units of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in the past 24 hours ending Monday morning, hospital authorities confirmed.

Of the dead, 10 were Covid positive while the rest died with symptoms of Covid infection and before testing their samples, said RMCH deputy director Saiful Ferdous.

He said that three of the deceased were from Rajshahi district, while six were from Chapainawabganj, two from Natore, and one from Meherpur.

According to the RMCH sources, a total of 137 patients died in the Covid units of the hospital in the last 14 days. Of the deceased, 80 tested positive for Covid-19 and the remaining ones, having symptoms of Covid infection, died before testing their samples.

Meanwhile, 44 new patients were admitted to the hospital’s Covid units in the last 24 hours while a total of 307 patients were taking treatment at the units having 271 beds.

RMCH deputy director Saiful Ferdous told New Age that 243 out of 65 samples were tested positive in the hospital’s two labs on Sunday.

According to the Rajshahi Health Directorate office, more than 10,000 patients have been infected with Covid-19 in the Rajshahi division in the last 29 days.

On May 15, the total number of infected patients was 32,000. The total number of identified patients in the division until Sunday stood at 42,255.

Rajshahi city has been witnessing a seven-day lockdown since Friday afternoon to contain the spread of Covid infection.
