JU asked to stop appointing six lecturers until June 20

The High Court on Tuesday asked the Jahangirnagar University authorities to postpone the process of appointing six teachers at its philosophy department until Sunday, June 20.

An online HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman also set the date for passing its order on two writ petitions that challenged the JU authorities’ move to recruit the six lecturers at the department in online process during the closure of the university due to Covid situation.

It also asked the university authorities to submit relevant documents on the appointments by June 20.

A petition was filed by professors Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, ASM Anwarullah Bhuiyan, Md Zakir Hossain and assistant professor Abdus Satter—challenging the legality of notification issued by the university authorities on February 11 inviting applications for the post of lecturers while another petition was filed by two aspirant lecturer candidates.
