Covid-19 kills 54 more in Bangladesh

The death toll from Covid-19 in Bangladesh slightly decreased while infections increased in the past 24 hours on Friday.

The county logged an additional 54 deaths and 3,883 new infections in the timeline, said the daily Covid situation update by the Directorate General of Health Services.

The new figures take the overall number of Covid deaths to 13,399 and infections to 844,970.

Among the deceased, 35 are male and 19 female patients.

Fifty one of them died at public hospitals, one at private ones and two died at their homes, said the government statistics.

A total of 20,882 samples have been tested at 528 laboratories across the country in the timeline. Bangladesh had tested 62,88,539 samples as of June 18.

A total of 1,955 people recovered from the viral disease totalling the number to 778,421.

The daily update shows that 26 of the deceased were aged above 60 years, 15 aged between 51 and 60 years, seven between 41 and 50 years, five between 31 and 40 years, and one between the age range of 21 to 30.

Meanwhile in Rajshahi, 12 more patients died at the Covid units of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in past 24 hours.

Of the deceased, six were positive for Covid-19 and the rest ones died with symptoms of Covid infection, RMCH director Brigadier Shameem Yazdany told New Age.

He said that five of the dead were from Rajshahi district, three from Naogoan district, and two each from Chapainawabganj, and Natore districts.

Globally, over 177.44 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 3.84 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
