3 killed, 13 injured in Bogra road accident

At least three people, including an infant, have been killed and 13 others injured after a bus collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw head-on in Shibganj upazila, Bogra.

The incident took place in the upazila’s Hatibandha area on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway on Saturday morning, said witnesses and officials of the fire service and police.

The accident caused severe traffic gridlock in the area.

Officials said the accident took place at around 8:05am when a Panchagarh-bound bus of Ahsan Enterprise, collided head-on with the CNG auto-rickshaw, coming from the opposite direction.

The three deceased, who died in the accident, have been identified as, Ashraf Ali, 50, his wife Parul Begum, 42, and their two-month-old grandson Rezwan Islam.

The injured were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital and other local hospitals for treatment.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Gobindaganj Highway Police Station, said: “We have seized the bus involved in the accident. But its driver and helper managed to escape. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families.

“A case will be filed in this regard soon.”
