Khulna Division has again recorded the highest Covid-19 deaths in a day -- 28 -- since the pandemic started in the country last year.
In the 24 hours between 8am Saturday and 8am Sunday, the division also recorded 763 new Covid-19 cases across the 10 districts under it.
Dr Rasheda Sultana, the director of the divisional health office, confirmed on Sunday afternoon the latest data, which took the division’s death toll to 827 and the total number of cases to 45,032.
On Saturday, the division had recorded 24 deaths over the previous 24 hours.
According to the health director’s office, between Saturday and Sunday mornings, seven Covid-19 patients died in Kushtia district under the division, two each in Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira, four each in Jessore and Jhenaidah, one each in Narail and Magura, and five in Chuadanga.
Also, 34,320 patients have also recovered across the division.
The bordering division had detected its first Covid-19 case in Chuadanga district on March 19 last year.
Meanwhile, in the wake of the surge in cases and deaths, the Khulna district administration is set to impose stricter restrictions on public movement and gathering in the city and across the district for a week from Tuesday.
The District Committee on Coronavirus Prevention on Saturday also decided that the movement restrictions, which ended on Friday afternoon, will remain in effect till the stricter ones replace them.
No public transport will be allowed, barring the vehicles carrying essential commodities, to enter or exit Khulna. Public transport in Khulna district and city will also be completely suspended during these seven days.
All shops and markets will remain closed. Only pharmacies and shops that sell essential and emergency commodities will be allowed to stay open.
