Covid-19 claims 76 more, infects 4,846 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh logged an additional 76 deaths and 4846 infections from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours until 8:00am Tuesday.

The daily test positivity rate is 19.36.

With the latest tally, the death toll from Covid hits 13,702 and infections 861,150.

The daily Covid situation update by the Directorate General of Health Services came up with the latest statistics.

A total of 25,028 samples have been tested during the reporting period.

Bangladesh had tested 63,76,819 samples as of June 22.

Bangladesh officially announced the presence of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020 while recorded the first death on March 18, 2020.

Among the deceased, 42 are male and 34 female patients.

Sixty two of them died at public hospitals, 10 at private ones and four died at their homes, according to the government statistics.

A total of 2,903 people recovered from the viral disease totalling the number to 788,385.

The daily update shows that 37 of the deceased were aged above 60 years, 23 aged between 51 and 60 years, seven between 41 and 50 years, eight between 31 and 40 years and one between the age range of 21 to 30.

The government on Monday ordered further restrictions on public movement and activities except emergency services in seven districts of Dhaka division for nine days from Wednesday morning to contain the surge in Covid infections, disconnecting road and river communications between the capital city and other districts.

The Cabinet Division in an order issued on the day said that all public activities in general, including public movement, in the districts of Manikganj, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj would remain banned from 6:00am June 22 to June 30 midnight considering the coronavirus situation.

Reports received from Khulna, Rajshahi and Satkhira say that a total of 29 patients died at Covid units of hospitals in the districts in the past 24 hours ending Tuesday morning.

Of them, 10 died in three hospitals in Khulna, 13 at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and six died at Satkhira Medical College Hospital, officials said.

Of the 28 deceased, 15 were Covid positive patients and 14 died with symptoms of Covid infection.

Covid-19 continues its onslaught across the world even with mass inoculations underway. In fact, the global coronavirus caseload is fast nearing the 179-million mark.

The total caseload and fatalities stand at 178,730,551 and 3,871,409, respectively, as of Tuesday morning. The latest figures have been released by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 2,647, 610,113 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.

The US, which is the world’s worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 33,554,246 cases, according to JHU.
